Aguilar grabs $3000 USCS presented by Biobased.US win at Lanier

Braselton, GA - April 10, 2010 - Joey "The Ace" Aguilar from Tampa, Florida captured a career first United Sprint Car Series Asphalt Outlaw Thunder Tour 40-lap main event at Lanier National Speedway on Saturday night. Aguilar collected $3000 including a $1000 bonus to the winner posted by Don and Sue Ellen Wilshe's Biobased.US Company for his victory in Darrin Miller's #70 Chevy powered winged sprint car. Aguilar led thirty-nine of the forty laps after starting from the K&N Filters Pole Position.

The race was not decided until the final lap as defending National Champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee then, past USCS Southern Thunder regional series Champion, Johnny Bridges who started the contest in fifteenth place battled Aguilar all the way to the finish line for the $3000 paycheck. Bridges raced past Gray who started outside the front row next to Aguilar, for the runner-up position on lap twenty-nine .Bridge then reeled in Aguilar. Bridges then pulled along beside the eventual winner and the two raced side-by-side from laps 35 through 38 before Aguilar pulled ahead for the win and his first USCS victory lane visit.

Bridges charged his way into the runner-up spot at the finish driving the Biobased.US sponsored Roush-Yates Ford powered #07 J&J Auto Racing dirt sprint car. Gray got trapped behind several lapped cars on the white flag lap and finished just out of reach of the flying duo in the third position driving his own familiar #10 Wesmar Chevy powered

Winged Outlaw style sprint car. Talented nineteen year-old 2006 USCS Rookie of the Year, Derek Hagar from Marion, Arkansas who started the race in thirteenth position charged past nine cars to finish his own #9jr. in the fourth position. Seventeen year-old, Rookie of the Year candidate, Morgan Turpen from Bartlett, Tennessee who was the only female sprint car driver in the field rounded out the top five finishers in her #80, after starting fifth. Like Hagar, it was only Turpen's second paved track sprint car race of her young career.

Sprint car racing veteran Doug Day from nearby Winder, Georgia headed the next group of finishers. Day started the evening by qualifying 2nd fastest with a lap of 11.606 seconds just a tick off of Johnny Bridges fast time of 11.541 seconds around the quick 3/8 mile paved oval. He was then inverted from the K&N Filters Pole Position after Bridges dropped out his heat race. Engler Machine and Tool First Heat winner Terry Gray drew a six inversion in the K&N Filters Pole Award drawing prior to the main event on the front straightaway. This placed Day in the sixth starting position. He raced as high as third place in the feature race before finishing sixth. .

Brian Thomas from Pendergrass, Georgia finished in the seventh position. 2009 USCS Asphalt Thunder Rookie of the Year Brian Carter from Concord, North Carolina finished in eighth place after starting ninth in the tough field. USCS veteran David Thorman from Greenville, South Carolina followed in ninth position after his second place finish in the Butlerbuilt Second Heat Race that was won by Joey Aguilar after Thorman led the first six circuits. The 2008 USCS Southern Thunder Rookie of the Year, Jake McLain from Indian Trail, North Carolina rounded out the top ten finishers.

Fourth starting Dude Teate also from Tampa, Florida pulled his #0 Biobased.US sponsored Roush-Yates Ford powered mount past Aguilar on lap fifteen while racing for the win to lead lap fifteen. On the very next lap Teate made contact with the lapped car of Jim Blenkarn from Smyrna, Tennessee and then hit the wall ending his charge to the front.

Yong gun, Derek Hagar won the 6 cars, 6-laps Goodyear Power Dash for the top six cars from time trials. Eight-time USCS National Champion, Terry Gray garnered the win in the 8-lap Engler Machine and Tool First Heat. Joey Aguilar won the Butlerbuilt Second Heat Race. Aguilar also was awarded the K&N Filters Pole Award. The JE Pistons Top Guns Award, which rotates from first through fifth positions in the A-Main, went to fourth place Derek finisher, Derek Hagar as alsoawarded the 4th place Butlerbuilt award. The Dynotech Top Five Award went to Morgan Turpen.

Derek Hagar was also awarded the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Young Gun of the Race (for the highest finishing driver under 25 years old.) after his fourth place finish in the main event. Female teenage sprint car hot-shoe Morgan Turpen was awarded the Rookie of the Race. Johnny Bridges garnered the KSE Racing Hard charger Award for advancing the most positions in the 40-lap main event after passing 13 cars while racing from fifteenth to second place.
