Fleeman's Flee at LNS Season Opener

(3/29/2010)

Fleeman’s Flee at Season Opener at Lanier National Speedway

Daughter father duo makes history at LNS.

Braselton, GA  - Creating a successful race team is something that every team dreams to achieve.  Creating two successful teams some say is only a wish, but creating a team with both of your drivers having the same last name, and both visiting victory lane in the same night, is best summed up by saying, it’s history!  Russell Fleeman, driver of the #98 US Auto Sales Ford Fusion, collected the checkered flag in the Red Top Auto Auction Super Six Pro Late Model event, while Fleeman’s daughter, Amber Fleeman, collected the first checkered flag of the year in her #98 US Auto Sales Young Gun Bandelero.

“This is incredible!  The car was great, thanks to my entire US Auto Sales team, for preparing this car,” said a happy Russell Fleeman in victory lane.  “I also want to thank Shane Sawyer for racing me clean, and putting on a great show.”  Earlier in the warm afternoon, Sawyer set a blistering pace around the 3/8th’s mile oval, placing him on the pole for the start of the 100 lap event.  Fleeman set the early pace, leading the first quarter of the race, with the rest of the field breathing fire directly behind him.  The race was slowed for a total of three caution flags, for various one car spins. During the event, the lead was traded between Fleeman and Sawyer, when the final caution flew on lap 86 for a one car spin in turn three.  When the green flag flew, Fleeman was on the inside front row, as Sawyer started on the outside front row.  Fleeman held the low line on the track for an exciting finish, collecting his first win in a late model in nine months.  Dwayne Buggay, driver of the #45 Red Top Auto Auction Chevrolet finished second, with pole sitter Sawyer, Jason Hogan, and 2009 Pro Challenge racer, Kyle Benjamin rounding out the top five for the 100 lap Red Top Auto Auction Super Six event.

Starting the first feature race of the year, at Lanier National Speedway, the INEX Bandolero cars took to the track for their twenty lap event.  Amber Fleeman, daughter of Russell Fleeman started on the pole, and never looked back to collect the checkereds.  Fleeman won the overall division, as well as the Young Gun class.  Second place overall, and Bandit division winner went to Will Davidson, with Hunter Hazelwood (Bandit), Parker Barnes (Bandit), and Chayse York (Bandit) rounding out the top five.

Other division winners throughout the evening went to Sean Rayhall, taking the win for the US Legend Car International INEX Legend car Young Lion division, Tyler Edwards collecting the win for the INEX Semi-Pro, Jeff Haynie taking the win in the Pro division, while Mike Brooks celebrated the Master victory.  Brandon Williamson survived the battle in the Pro Challenge 30 lap feature, James Nash brought his Mini-Stock to victory lane, with David Murphy (Outlaw Late Model), and Daryl Broome (Super Truck) also making the voyage to the happiest place at Lanier National Speedway.

Lanier will be hosting a family fun “US Auto Sales Lincoln Nite” event this Saturday evening featuring Bandelero, Legend Young Lion, Semi-Pro, Master, and Pro divisions.  Also competing will be the Pro-Challenge, and the ultra small, but ultra fast Mini-Cup cars.  Grandstand and trackside admission will be a Lincoln ($5) for adults with children 11 years of age and under admitted free.  Bring your ticket stub from this past weekend’s race for free admission.

Major events for the “Home of the Big Cheese” include the second race of the six race battle of the Red Top Auto Auction Super Six Pro Late Model division returning to Lanier for a 100 lap event with all local divisions on April 3rd.  The USCS Sprint Cars, along with the USAC Ford Focus Midget Series on April 10th, as well as the Night of Destruction when Lanier National Speedway will be torn apart by the hurricane tornado effects of skid racers, demolition derby, endro races, flag pole races, as well as Bandelero, Legend, Pro Challenge, and Junk Yard Dog divisions on April 17th.  April 24th will be the night of appreciation, as Lanier National Speedway will be hosting Fan Appreciation Night featuring races in all divisions including twin 20 lap events for the Super Truck divisions.
