First Legends Dirt Modified Points Championship to be Settled this Weekend at ELS

(9/22/2011)

Sept 22, 2011: The 2011 Legends Dirt Modified points championship will be settled this Saturday, September 24 at East Lincoln Speedway in Stanley, NC. Points leader Tommy Corellis leads second place Willy Evernham by just 12 points & third place runner Mark Lowrey by 27 points.

Both Corellis and Lowrey have two wins this season, and Willy Evernham has three. All three drivers have raced hard throughout the inaugural Legends Dirt Modified season to put themselves in contention to be the 2011 champion.

Recent winner Evan York sits solidly in the fourth place points position, while Jerry Lambert and Johnny Love have a close battle for the fifth spot with only 5 points separating the two.

“It has been a great season of racing, and we’re excited to have three different drivers that are mathematically capable of winning the championship this weekend”, said Shawn Parker whose company Dirt Track Racing School leases and maintains Legends Dirt Modifieds. “Ray Evernham designed a competitive racecar, and we’ve seen tight racing all season long. We’ve had a road racer, an asphalt oval racer & some dirt racers all win feature events in 2011. It’s really been an excellent season so far.”

Although this weekend's race will be the final points race of 2011, special non-points races are being looked into. “We had a non-points event at Fork Mountain Raceway in Virginia earlier this month, and it went really well”, said Parker. “The fans loved the cars, the track thought the racing was excellent and all the drivers enjoyed travelling to a new track. We’re hoping we can get another race or two in at some different tracks before the end of the year.”
