Monday; Road To Dirt Cup June 13th

(6/12/2011)

By Ben Deatherage

Cottage Grove, Oregon- “Monday, Monday” by the Mamas & the Papas is one the favorite songs of this writers’ choice when it comes to tunes and Monday night at the Cottage Grove Speedway will be a happening place.  But enough about music the famed ¼ mile in Western Oregon will host several top caliber drivers and teams from the Western United States for the first ever Road To Dirt Cup.  The event will be non-sanctioned and will feature a tire rule that will accommodate both Hoosier and Goodyear tires.

The recent history of the event has been taking place for the last two years under the banner of the Golden State Challenge King of California Series and has always been the last race before the prestigious Dirt Cup at the Skagit Speedway.  The case will be the same except as mentioned before the event will be put on by the Cottage Grove Speedway.

“It is a night for teams to get some extra money and gain some extra momentum going into a big weekend up there (Skagit) and for others a more or less shake down session for teams to get comfortable with their cars,” commented Brian Crockett about the upcoming event.

The last two events have been won by two different winners but both winners oddly enough share the same last name.  The always fast Brent Kaeding won the first ever event here in 2009 making a late race move passed Sammy Swindell for the victory.  “BK” as he is commonly known as has also had many other successes here throughout the years with non-sanctioned events as well as visits with the Northern Sprint Tour.

Tim Kaeding is the other driver and the man who won last year’s event holding off Tommy Tarleton for the win.  Kaeding already has three wins (as of June 4th) with the King of the West Series along with a victory with the American Sprint Car Series-National Tour in addition to a win at the Oceanside Speedway in Watsonville, California.  The only other race “TK” has is the only National Sprint Tour event at the Cottage Grove Speedway way back in 2006.

The event will also be the first 410 Sprint Car race of 2011 with the other being the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series which will take place on September 5th.  Several drivers that plan on coming to the event before they head to the state of Washington have one time or the other been a regular with Outlaw series while the vast majority at one time or the other have competed against them.

So come join us for an evening full of quality entertainment on one of the most prestigious facilities in the country.  It will be a new year in which anything can happen and we want you to not miss a minute of the action.  Be sure to pack warm clothes and a blanket as the first few weeks have some cold weather occur once the sun goes down.

The Cottage Grove Speedway is a ¼ mile high banked clay oval located in Western Oregon.  The track hosts several sanctioning bodies and series throughout the season including the World of Outlaws, American Sprint Car Series, I-5 DirtCar Late Model Series, and the Interstate Sprint Car Series to name a few.  Be sure and keep in touch by logging on http://www.cottagegrovespeedway.com or the popular social networking sites of Facebook and Twitter.
