Newport Speedway Announces 2014 Plans

(2/21/2014)

Questions about the future of Newport Speedway were put to rest today as it was announced that longtime promoter Ed Surrett will be returning to the East Tennessee Bullring for 2014 after a year's absence.

Newport Speedway will hold a significantly lighter schedule in 2014, with a total of 9 races scheduled throughout the year.  The first will be held on May 10.  Of those 9 races, 7 will see the Late Model division as the night headliners, with twin races, giving the division a total of 14 races for the season.  The other 2 races will see the Southeast Super Trucks, a regional truck touring series, be the headliner of those events.  In regards to the lower divisions, Street Stocks, Front Wheel Drive, and Mini Cups will be competing at all events.  There is a possibility of adding either a Modified 4-Cylinder or Pure Stock division as well but that decision has yet to be made.

In addition to those 9 races scheduled at Newport, there will also be 2 "away" races where the lower divisions will play support to the South East Super Trucks at their 2 dates at Tri-County Motor Speedway in Hudson, NC.  These two races will count as points races for the Newport classes.

There has also been some discussion of the addition of more events to the schedule, those will be added when the become available.
