"Kevin Lynch Memorial-Night 1"

The Steel Block Bandits headed to Cumberland, MD this weekend for the Kevin Lynch Memorial, qualifying events were to be held Friday night with the main event Saturday. At 4 PM Friday evening a torrential downpour with heavy winds hit the facility. After over 5 hours of attempting to get the track run in speedway officials determined that the event would have to be moved to Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday evening saw 41 cars sign in to qualify for the $5,000 to win event. Time trials for the 41 late models saw Jack Pencil of Bedford, PA driving the #85 machine typically driven by Matt Emerick set fast time at 20.713 seconds. Ted Gallaher, Bob Salathe, David Williams, and DJ Troutman rounded out the top five in time trials.

Four heat events would be held with DJ Troutman of Hyneman, PA jumping to the lead over heat race polesitter Jack Pencil and taking the win. Grant Adams and Matt Cosner would also transfer to the feature event. The second heat saw Steel Block Bandits regular Joey Leavell of Waynesboro, VA dominate and win over Ted Gallaher, the Doug Timmons owned machines of Andy Anderson and JT Spence would also transfer into the main. The third heat was taken by Forest, VA driver and Steel Block Bandits points leader Walker Arthur over Matt Parks, Chris Harr, and Bob Salathe. The fourth and final qualifier went to Kyle Lear of Pasadena, MD over David Williams, Dylan Yoder, and Bo Feathers.

To close out the evenings event a $100 to win Dash was held to determine how the four heat winners would start. DJ Troutman would cruise in the event over Joey Leavell and Walker Arthur. Kyle Lear didn't take the green as he would suffer mechanical issues while lining up.

Sunday evenings events will start with warm-ups at 5:30 PM, the Steel Block Bandits will run a pair of B-Mains and finish the evening with the 50 lap $5,000 to win Kevin Lynch Memorial.
