Ben Pettis Tops SLM Field at Marshfield – Mariah Gajewski Scores Feature Win!

(6/21/2014)

STEVE HAUSER, NICK ERICKSON, JR., & BRIAN WEINFURTER NOTCH FEATURE WINS AT MMS!

Marshfield, WI, June 21, 2014 – It was a great night of racing on Kid’s Night at Marshfield Motor Speedway! Kids were treated to stock car rides, coloring book contest, Bike giveaways, prizes, and much more. WCAR was on hand to help make Kid’s Night a great success.

Super Late Models were once again apart of the card tonight, and Eau Claire, WI driver Ben Pettis tripped the clock fastest, to earn the top spot in qualifying. In the Napa of Marshfield Dash 4 Cash, it was once again Ben Pettis earning the top spot.

Once the Super Late Models took the green flag for their 35-lap feature, it was Davey Pennel jumping out to the early lead. Pennel would lead the first 3 laps, then it was Jeff Weinfurter grabbing the lead away from Sparta, WI native Davey Pennel. Weinfurter, who always has great runs at Marshfield Motor Speedway, held the lead for 12 – laps. It was a night that Ben Pettis wasn’t going to be denied, if it wasn’t for a second place finish in his heat, Pettis was looking to make it a clean sweep, here tonight at MMS! Pettis, in his familiar brightly colored #22 hot rod, made his way to the front with a pass of Weinfurter as the two drivers exited turn two. Working his way to the third position, and looking to put some heat on the runner up driver of Weinfurter, was Ryan Hinner. Week in and week out, Hinner is always a strong competitor at Marshfield Motor Speedway. Caution would fly as Kyle Genett looped his race car as he exited turn four. Once the race restarted, it was Pettis holding the lead with Weinfurter and Hinner, your top three drivers. With Genett going to the rear of the field, it was going to be interesting to see if Genett, who earlier in the day was second quickest qualifier, could work his way back to the front. With Pettis holding a comfortable lead, the real battle tonight would be to see who was going to finish in the runner up position. With the field staying status quo for many laps, it was Genett making things fun to watch as he made inside and outside passing, as he tried to get back to the front. By lap 30, Genett found himself in the third position, and noticeably running down a very fast Weinfurter for the runner up position. Once starter Geno Eckes threw the white flag, Genett worked himself to the back of the Weinfurter machine. With it clear that Ben Pettis was going to pocket another feature win at MMS, Kyle Genett put his car to the outside of Weinfurter, as the two drivers exited turn 4 and dragged their way to the finish line. With Pettis crossing the finish line first, it was the Weinfurter car edging out Kyle Genett by a half a car length to finish second. With Ryan Hinner coming home in the fourth position, a very consistent Jordan Thiel finished in the fifth position.

Apart of the program once again tonight was the x-Treme 4′s. Tripping the clock fastest in qualifying was a very fast Dennis Goetsch. With 12 cars competing in tonight’s feature event, it was evident that the feature event was going to be “edge of your seat” racing. It was Phil Malouf leading the first four laps, then heat winner and points leader Steve Hauser grabbing the early lead away from Malouf, as the two cars exited turn two. With Hauser extending his lead to 5-car lengths, Tim Anderson worked his way tot he third position from his 12th starting position. With the completion of lap 10, and Steve Hauser holding a comfortable lead, it was Anderson working his way around Phil Malouf for the second spot. Ernie Schlough made his first appearance at Marshfield Motor Speedway tonight, and was performing very well. Schlough, whom of which was filling in for an injured Brandon Herr, put his Bill Herr powered Ford in the runner up position, as he out powered Tim Anderson down the backstretch on lap 19. However, it was a good point night for Steve Hauser as he crossed the finish line first! With Schlough and Anderson finishing second and third respectively, Derk Hauser and Adam Eckes rounded out the top five.

Brian Weinfurter collected top honors in the Super Stock division of racing, as he edged Brad Scholze, Greg Mathews, and Phil Malouf, in feature action. It was Malouf pocketing the heat win tonight for the Super Stocks.

In Bandit action tonight at Marshfield Motor Speedway, Dillon Mackesy put his familiar #93 to the top of the charts in qualifying. Mackesy clocked in at 23.046 seconds to earn top honors. Once the drivers took the green flag for their feature event, it was Mariah Gajewski leading the way over Brandon Polansky. With Gajewski holding a 5-car length lead, Mackesy worked his way through the field to the second spot. With heat winner Dave Meyer holding down the third position, Mackesy was noticeably closing the gap that Gajewski made for herself. With three laps remaining, Mackesy got to the rear bumper of Gajewski, setting up a fantastic finish. With the conclusion of the feature event only one lap away, it was Mackesy sawing at the wheel in an effort to do what he could do to eclipse the lead of Gajewski. Coming out of turn 4 on the final lap, Mackesy drove to the bottom of Gajewski, however, it was Mariah Gajewski motoring her way to a very popular feature win! With hotshoe Dillon Mackesy taking the runner up ;position, it was Dave Meyer, George Seliger, and Brian Hudson rounding out the top 5.
