IHRA announces 2012 Summit Pro-Am schedule

NORWALK, Ohio (January 5, 2011) – With the 2012 racing season just around the corner, the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) is gearing up for a huge season of racing, especially on the Summit Pro-Am Tour where a few changes are leading to exciting new opportunities for racers.
In 2012 the Summit Pro-Am Tour will be combining with Nitro Jam for select events to create a unique opportunity for racers across the country. While most Pro-Am events will function as standalone races as they have in the past, in 2012 select Pro-Am events will be run in conjunction with the Nitro Jam professional series to create a more exciting atmosphere and provide additional opportunities for Pro-Am racers to qualify for the year-end Summit Racing Equipment Tournament of Champions.
All Summit Pro-Am events, with the exception of Division 9, will feature double race weekends including those run at Nitro Jam national events. Pro-Am events run in conjunction with Nitro Jam will feature two points paying races, with the exception of the event at Grand Bend Motorplex, with one of those races targeted as the Summit Tournament of Champions qualifier with national event payout, contingency and a spot in the year-end championship tournament on the line. The event at Grand Bend will feature one points paying, TOC qualifying race in Division 3. The rest of the Pro-Am schedule will be run as normal with multiple races in each division including select events acting as a standalone Summit Tournament of Champions qualifiers.
Summit Pro-Am racers finishing first, second or third in their division in the final championship standings will continue to qualify for the Summit Tournament of Champions as well. Pro-Am champions in each division will earn a first round bye in the tournament.
