We're going to keep this pretty simple, and this tip isn't just for the benefit of YOU either... if YOU follow this tip, not only will YOU be more successful at keeping sponsors, but the entire sport of racing will benefit as well!

You see, we're going to put something in writing that every racer has probably either said or heard at least once and maybe a hundred times in the time they've been racing.  This tip isn't rocket science, it's not earth shattering.. it's actually probably the simplest tip we could ever write... so, here it is:

KEEP YOUR WORD AND FOLLOW THROUGH ON YOUR COMMITMENTS!

 

No, we're not trying to preach to anyone, but you see, we've gotten emails from many racers that basically said the same general thing and we figured we might as well say it out loud so that EVERYONE acknowledges that it happens.  Here's the general sentiment we've heard over and over again: 

'Look, I've tried to get sponsorship from lots of businesses that have sponsored other racers or tracks, but there's one problem.  They won't ever do it again because they feel like they got screwed'

 

Have you ever heard a business say something to that effect? Have you ever said that to another racer or to a friend as you're frustrated with trying to find new sponsors?  Odds are, it's crossed your ears and/or your lips at least a bunch of times.

Here's the bottom line... The economy has not been friendly to all levels of racing.  Sponsorship dollars are harder to find at ALL levels... Major motorsports series have seen more sponsors LEAVE the sport than come to it because either they don't have the money to spend anymore or they've been challenged to find new ways of reaching fans that provide a better ROI (Return on Investment).  Since racing is a sport that relies so heavily on external funding to make it work, the more you can do to make sure you're providing a positive experience for your sponsor, the better off you will be and the better off the sport will be.

WORD OF MOUTH IS THE SINGLE BEST MARKETING METHOD!

The same can be said of sponsorship.  If a sponsor has a positive experience and sees a positive ROI on their investment in YOU, there's a pretty good chance that not only will they continue sponsoring you, but that they'll talk about their positive experience with other business owners.

THE FINAL TIP TO NEVER EVER FORGET:

Every racer has the ultimate ability to make a HUGE CHANGE IN RACING... When you follow through for your sponsors, YOU are making a difference by changing the perception from, "I'm sorry, I've been screwed too many times" to "WOW, I can't believe how sponsoring YOU helped my business!"
