I’ve Been A Racing Fan Ever Since… i was 4 or 5 years old,the local track "Auburn Speedway" was just a short walk from home..we moved in 1969,but then the walk to the track was even closer..
I Love Racing Because… my dad was track fireman for many years,and the man across the street drove the old hardtops,as did my mailman,my dads best friend..and many other guys i met growing up
The best race I have ever been to was… id have to say it was the 4th of july race 1980 at the ernie purcell speedway in grass valley cal,,i was the reason it was my best one to be at,,i set a track record,ofcourse had fast time,won the dash,won the heat and won the main event..a full clean sweep!!
The worst crash I’ve ever seen in person was… my own when i rode the top of the concrete wall at grass valley and hit a second wall headon...distroying my car.and at auburn in the 70s when a modified went over the wall and through the roof of the county museum just on the otherside of the fence.
My biggest ‘racing memory’ is… the first time i saw "stock cars" on the dirt at auburn...they raced the old "hardtops" in those days,and one night 6 white chevy sedans came and put on a "show",all of the cars were 55-57 chevys,all painted identical and put on a great race...the nexk weekend the track had a 15 car field of "stock cars"
